Here's Connor and I, we were trying to go to the Soccer game that night but we couldn't make it there in time, instead we went to a Pub and met up with my roommates there. I still say I'm impressed he was able to stay awake for the entire night, after traveling that much in one day.
The next day the family and I went to the Vatican to take a tour of the Sistine Chapel. This tour took almost three hours, but our tour guide was the man so it didn't make any difference how long it took. I actually wished it would have gone longer to be honest. Here are some of the pictures I took on our tour.
But first we had a decent lunch before we started the tour, we were able to bargain a cheap pair of sunglasses for Connor, and then we both grabbed a good size beer to enjoy with our lunch.
I don't know why but Connor looks like he's 12 here.
this inspired "the thinker"
you're not suppose to be take pictures or even talk in the Sistine Chapel, but everyone was doing it so I thought i might as well too.
that black square was what the celling originally looked like, there was a huge deal about them lightening the celling a long time ago, but they kept that square there to show what the color once was.
After our tour, I took everyone to my favorite gelato stop in all of Italy... Actually the world! Old Bridge, I crave this place everyday!
Mom and Amie wanted to shop around a bit, so while we slowly made our way back to their Hotel we had dinner and a nice Italian restaurant and called it an early night.
Day Two: I still had to go to a few classes before the weekend started for me, and the second I got out of class I had to spring home, shower, and head to the train station to book my train ticket to go to The Amfly Coast with the Fam. After I took care of that I headed back to the apartment to wake up Connor. From there we met up with Amie and Mom and I took them to see all of Rome. Well as much as we could anyways, We were lucky enough that the day was perfect, it was warm outside. Shorts, T-shirts, and sunglasses... The fist place I took them was the Colosseum, only because my first big surprise when I first came to Rome, was the Colosseum. I was going to see if they had the same reaction. Although it wasn't the reaction I thought it was going to be, they later told me that they had seen it the night before when they landed in Rome, their cab driver took them past it on the way to their hotel. For dinner we went back to my apartment and grabbed my roommate Ben and headed to dinner. We went to Ben's favorite place in Rome, and I must say that it has the best pizza in Rome hands down!
Here's all of us outside of the Colosseum
as we were walking away, we made our way up the the Vittoriano, and on the way Connor and Amie both bought two really cool posters, I don't know if you guys have seen the youtube guy who can spray paint a poster to perfection in like....30 seconds? Well this guy wasn't that fast but he did have a lot of really cool posters that he would paint right in front of every.
Here's the view from the Vittoriano, again look at the sky... Perfect day out in Rome
We walked both sides of this massive white building (It's the same as the first picture that Connor and I are in front of). We kept walking for a bit until we hit a street where we all thought that we were going to get killed crossing. There was no cross-walk but it was our only way across. As we started to make our way across, cars and scooters were speeding up at as and laying down on their horns. But we made it to the Pantheon, and sat down at a restaurant for happy hour and some appetizers.
As we were eating we heard a lot of commotion that was starting to get closer and closer, before we knew it there was a massive group of people singing and waving a huge Italian flag around, singing songs and yelling words in Italian I haven't learned yet. I took these pictures and asked my teacher later in the week what this was about. "This was the leader of the Partito Democratico, Pier Luigi Bersani, in a rally against Berlusconi using parliament for "ad personam" legislation (to keep himself out of legal trouble, his opponents would say)." I hope that guy gets thrown in jail for a long time!
Here's everyone waving the flag and singing songs.
After that Mom and Amie went back to their room so they could pack things up, we were heading to the Amalfi Coast tomorrow and they needed to pack their bags up and move them to my apartment. In the morning.
Here we all are after our little snack, I'm still taller than Connor, he's just on his tippie toes.
Then that night I took everyone to the Trevi Fountain. One of the coolest monuments to see at night in Rome. The great thing about Rome is that some things are better at night. The saying is that "Rome comes alive at night." Which the Trevi Fountain really does. I only take people here at night and we've only came here when it was night expect once, and I wasn't to impressed with it during the day.
Day Three: I had to take a quiz, present a powerpoint in my marketing class and then meet up with Mom and Amie at their hotel, this so they could drop their bags off at my apartment. Everything we smoothly and as planned and we made our way to the Coast!
Here we are on our way to the Coast!
Here's the view from our hotel, I'm still kicking myself in the butt for not taking my camera with me to the beach! But, Connor and I got super sun burnt. Connor got it the worst though! And mine has been peeling for about a week now, not to happy about that but oh well.
another great view
:)
This sign should be placed by my apartment, I swear it's an everyday thing as soon as 7 AM hits horns go CRAZY!
It was Amie's birthday while we were in Rome and our friends from Michigan we met there threw her a little surprise!
Now I'm smashing our two nights at the Amalfi Coast together because this blog is getting way to long, but the last night we were there, we ate Denzel Washington's favorite restaurant in all of Italy. When I asked what his favorite thing on the menu was and how much it was the waiter walked away laughing. Later to tell me that it was Lobster.... and his dishes usually cost around 5 thousand dollars.... I told him I'd take two!
I want to thank Connor, Amie and my MUM for coming to see me in Rome. I had so much fun showing everyone around Rome and a ton of fun on the coast. It's crazy that I'll be back in the states soon but I know that this weekend will forever be my favorite abroad!
