POMPEII!
On a weekend where we all stayed in Rome, Melissa and I decided we didn't want to waste an amazing day sitting in our apartments or just being lazy in Rome, so we hopped on a train and headed to Pompeii, Italy. For those of you who don't know what Pompeii it is a city that was buried because a volcano erupted for 22 straight hours, the people and buildings of Pompeii were covered up by 12 different layers of ash and lava (thats why the bodies were so were preserved). On top of that it rained for close to 10 hours after the explosion. It's awesome to say that I went here because they are shutting down Pompeii in a few years because so much tourism has worn everything down. There is so much to talk about with Pompeii but here are few of the many pictures I took for this trip, it's hard to really tell you what everything is unless you are looking at it in person, the picture can only capture so much. This was a house at some point, there is a grill and a table in the back if you can see it
This is where they would hold city meetings and important talk throughout the city
This is a reverse angle of the city meeting area
It's crazy because this tower is really, really tall! All of these rooms were once covered, but you can't even tell now that anything was once giving shelter to anyone.
one of the bodies they discovered
if you look at their faces you can see the expressions they were giving as they were being buried. They say that when they were discovered they were wearing heavier cloths, they predict that the volcano blew around October - January times.
Here's the second guy
All together now
Last one
they found many children's bodies here, they believe this could have been an area where parents would bring their kids for everyone to "play" in the same location.
There are their toilets....
Prostitution was huge in Pompeii, they had a whole building strictly for that, on the walls above each room were paintings similar to this, this is were we get a lot of our sexual positions from. They said that the sex would cost them around two glasses of their finest wines.
This is ME sitting on one of the beds. There were 6 rooms in all and each room had a different painting on top of it.
Here is where Hercules is suppose to be buried, the story is that he once was in Pompeii and loved it so much that he made his followers and workers make sure he was buried by the biggest theater they had. The tomb is underground and you have to have a private tour to actually go see it.
Here's just another view from of some the remains if Pompeii
Then Melissa made our way back to Rome that night after a full day of seeing one of most historic cities in all of Italy!
